"Is This Honey" is a vocal past British-American stone band Whitesnake. Information technology was released in 1987 as the second single from their self-titled album.

The single was a hit for Whitesnake, reaching number nine in the UK Singles Chart,^[4] and number ii on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles nautical chart where it was barred from the acme spot past George Michael's smash hit "Faith",^[5] making information technology their second-biggest United states of america hitting subsequently "Here I Go Once more", which topped the charts. The unmarried was reissued in 1994 to promote Whitesnake's Greatest Hits. This version reached number 25 on the United kingdom Singles Chart.^[6]

"Is This Love" has been a mainstay in Whitesnake'south alive shows since 1987. As such, it is featured on several of their alive albums, including Live: In the Shadow of the Dejection (2006) and Live at Donington 1990 (2011). John Sykes played it live in 2004 (Bad Male child Live!). In 2015, Archetype Rock mag ranked it as 7th on their Top 40 greatest power ballads list.^[7]

Background and writing [edit]

The power ballad^[vii] was written past vocalist David Coverdale and guitarist John Sykes during the anthology's early on writing process (which took place in the south of France), but it was long rumoured that the song had originally been written for Tina Turner. Coverdale confirmed these rumours in the booklet of Whitesnake 'southward 20th anniversary edition, by saying.

Before I'd left [for the south of France] a friend at EMI had asked me for any ideas that would work for Tina Turner. So that was where the original idea for "Is This Honey" came from.

Even so, co-ordinate to Coverdale, when David Geffen heard information technology he was told to go on it and then kept it for Whitesnake.^[8]

Music video [edit]

A music video was also made, featuring Coverdale'due south then-girlfriend actress Tawny Kitaen. The music video, which was directed by Marty Callner, depicts the ring playing the song on a misty phase, intercut with scenes of Coverdale singing, Kitaen dancing and the two of them together. Due to Coverdale firing the other members of the band earlier the album was released, he is the just Whitesnake member present on both the recording and in the music video; this was the case for all music videos released for songs from the 1987 album (except for "Here I Go Over again", Vandenberg performed the guitar solo on the recording and later appeared in the music video also).

Commercial functioning [edit]

"Is This Love" reached number 13 on Billboard 's Mainstream Rock nautical chart.^[9] It also peaked at number 38 on the Adult Gimmicky nautical chart in the US;^[ten] despite this, in the years since, "Here I Go Once more", which did non chart on the Air-conditioning chart at the time of its release, gets more than airplay on adult gimmicky stations, most notably iHeartRadio-owned stations.

*The B-sides that appeared on EMI editions of the single were new 1987 re-recordings of earlier tracks past the band, although they were non advertised every bit such on the packaging. Both re-recorded versions would after feature on the 1987 Versions EP.
